Somewhere Over The Rainbow …

A popular fashion trend of the moment is the use of bold and bright colours!  There are no rules this Spring as the mixture of block colours and other methods of colour clashing is encouraged.  Pairing a red skirt with a hot pink top or teaming bright yellow shorts with a blue top may sound like a crazy idea but it looks great and is most certainly on trend.

The Spring Summer 2011 designs bring a range of vibrant and colourful styles with some pieces  incorporating two or more clashing colours making them even more exciting!

Here is a selection of some designer Spring looks to brighten up your life ….

Lovely Lace

A big trend for Spring 2011 is sheer lace fabrics.  Designers opted for romantic designs this season and the catwalk exposed some beautiful lace dresses, tops and even hotpants.  To achieve an understated sexy look, lace is the perfect choice of material to wear.  It is both flirty and feminine as well as having the benefit of the sheer material revealing just the right amount of skin.

At this year’s Academy Awards Ceremony Mila Kunis, Melissa Leo and Scarlett Johansson received great reviews from fashion critics for donning themselves in eye-catching lace dresses. On the Spring runway, Dolce & Gabbana and Erdem presented all over lace styles while Anna Sui shows that areas of detailed lace incorporated into an outfit can be just as effective.

Collette Dinnigan Autumn-Winter 2011

Collette Dinnigan’s Autum Winter 2011 collection entitled ‘Portrait of a Woman’ certainly represents its title after the talented designer produced a range of delicate feminine pieces. The Fall line includes a stunning range of clothing with bold colours, Italian and French lace designs, fur, sequins and feminine silhouette patterns. This creative designer definitely knows how to paint a portrait of a woman!

Collette was the first Australian designer to launch a ready-to-wear line in Paris back in 1995. Style stars Elle Macpherson, Rachel Bilson and Kate Hudson are huge fans of the Aussie’s creations.

Giuseppe Zanotti

Talented shoe designer Giuseppe Zanotti believes that “shoes are just an extension of the legs“.  Having created some of the most beautiful shoes for over a quarter of a century, Zanotti’s collections are eagerly anticipated by shoe lovers every season.

The new line for Fall 2011 is no different.  It could be described as a visual collection full of exaggerated colours and styles. The collection contrasts drastically with the present Spring Summer Collection. Shoe styles are designed with inner platforms to enhance the legs and feminine figure. This is a move away from the present collection of delicate, light and flat bottomed shoes.

Kim Kardashian was very excited to view the collection last month as she tweeted just moments after meeting Mr. Zanotti himself, “Just previewed the Fall Giuseppe Zanotti collection! Wow so honoured to get the first run of fab shoes!”.

Funky American fashion designer Betsey Johnson debuted a vibrant Fall Collection during New York fashion week! The colourful theme  ‘He Loves Me/He Loves Me Not’ was a good fit for Valentine’s week and went down well with the fashion crowd.

The first half of the collection was presented as the darker ‘He Loves Me Not’ theme. Models displayed edgier styles with Gothic prints, neckties, leopard patterns and sharply-cut hair bobs to complete the sombre mood.

In contrast, Betsey’s collection proceeded with ”He Loves Me” pieces portraying a more optimistic fashion theme. Models paraded down the catwalk in pretty pastels, rose patterned baby doll dresses and the brightest of colours … rarely seen in a Fall collection.

Unpredictable Betsey loves to break the fashion rules! Who cares if he loves us or he loves us not, we LOVE Betsey!

Designer Focus: Christian Louboutin

Christian Louboutin is the definitive shoe designer, sharing with the world his amazing shoe collections with their trademark shiny red soles. Louboutin shoes are special; each design is unique and striking while still maintaining that classy old-school elegance. Arguably, the Christian Louboutin could be considered the world’s sexiest shoe. It oozes seductiveness, both with its soaring stiletto height and sex siren red sole colour.
There is no doubt that Christian Louboutin’s shoes, with their signature sole, are instantly recognisable and distinctive from other shoe designs. Even men who know little or nothing about fashion can spot the shoes in a crowd. The Louboutin is guaranteed to make an appearance at any A-List party and is usually worn by at least one Hollywood style starlet at a given celebrity event.  Fashion icons such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Scarlet Johansson glide down the red carpet while the soles of their beautiful shoes perfectly reflect the surface beneath them.

The strength of the Louboutin brand stems from the integrity of the designer. Shoes are his primary vocation. Thus far, he has expressed no interest in expanding his collection into the clothing and ancillary markets. Profit does not take precedence over passion. It is interesting that his choice of signature sole colour is red – the colour of passion. You could say that shoe designing is in his body and ‘sole’!
The iconic shoe seems to create a sense of excitement among women the world over.  Recently, Christian Louboutin dedicated one of his masterpieces to stylish actress Blake Lively, much to her delight. Even Barbie loves to splurge on these red-soled wonders!
