Ziggy Stardust-inspired

Balmain AW11

You know you can instantly tell that it’s a Balmain model walking down the catwalk. Still trying to decide if that’s a good thing but nevertheless Christophe Decarnin has a signature style. It’s a shame he didn’t show up at the end. He was resting after being treated for an unconfirmed illness. Besides that drama, the show must go on. His collection stayed away from last seasons punk and was very much Glam Rock. Instead of last seasons soundtrack of Sid Vicious’s “My Way”, it was David Bowie’s “Lady Grinning Soul” off Aladdin Sane. Ziggy Stardust was clearly the inspiration behind the collection. The crystal-encrusted, all-in-one jumpsuits, the metallic leather peacked-lapel blazer in ice blue and electric yellow and the technicolour, wet-look leggins all screamed Mr Stardust. Is there anything I would consider wearing? Probably not but I think that’s the Balmain appeal. No doubt the metallic leather blazers will fly out the shops and make a big profit.

Jobriath – he was the American version of Ziggy Stardust. Americans didn’t like him very much and thought he was weird so he flopped.
